Yoto Mini: Voluntary Product Recall - NEW REMEDY AVAILABLE
In conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, we are again voluntarily recalling Yoto Minis manufactured between 2021 and 2023 offering all US and Canadian customers a Battery Replacement Kit (one per device). Please do not use your Yoto Mini until you have received your Battery Replacement Kit and followed all the instructions, even if you have a Smart Cable. The Battery Replacement Kit is available free of charge and contains a replacement battery from a new supplier, required tools and detailed instructions on how to change the battery in your Yoto Mini device. Do not reuse the old battery or keep it as a spare. Once replaced, please dispose of the old Yoto Mini lithium-ion battery in accordance with local and state regulations and not in the trash.
To order your free Battery Replacement Kit, you will need the email address that your Yoto Mini is registered with to log in, and your Yoto Mini Serial Number. Please first enter your serial number.

I already have a Smart Cable. Do I still need to order a Battery Replacement Kit for my Yoto Mini (2021 - 2023 edition)?
Yes, US Yoto Mini (2021 - 2023 edition) users should order a free Battery Replacement Kit. All registered owners will have received an email from Yoto with further instructions. The kit will contain a replacement battery from a new supplier, as well as the required tools and detailed instructions on how to change the battery. The new battery will remove the risk of battery overheating.
How do I know if my Yoto Mini is affected and needs a Battery Replacement Kit?
Affected units were sold between 2021 and 2023 and generally have a serial number starting 1FE-8FE. The 14 digit serial number can be found on the base on the unit.
Yoto Minis (2024 Edition) are unaffected and do not require a Battery Replacement Kit. They have a 14-digit Serial Number that either:
- starts with 9FE, or;
- starts with AFE, BFE, CFE, etc. going through the letters of the alphabet, or;
- starts with AVC, BVC, CVC, etc., going through the letters of the alphabet, or;
- ends with a -H, or -H7, or -U, regardless of how it starts.
You can find the 14-digit serial number on the base of the unit.

Why are you offering the Battery Replacement Kit as a new remedy now?
In a small number of cases, the battery may overheat when the Yoto Mini is being charged after the battery has gone completely flat (i.e. after a prolonged period of the Yoto Mini not being used). The Battery Replacement Kit removes the risk of overheating associated with the old batteries. We have successfully rolled out the Battery Replacement Kit in Australia.
I have more than one Yoto Mini. Can I get more than one Battery Replacement Kit?
Yes, you can register to receive one Battery Replacement Kit for each Yoto Mini (2021 - 2023 edition) that you own.
I didn’t buy my Yoto Mini from Yoto directly, can I still get a Battery Replacement Kit?
Yes, all registered Yoto Mini (2021-2023 edition) users are eligible for one free Battery Replacement Kit per device.
How long will it take for my Battery Replacement Kit to arrive?
The free Battery Replacement Kit will be shipped free of charge, using a tracked courier service. An initial number of orders will arrive within one week, with the remainder due in early 2025. Thank you in advance for your patience as we work through the high volume of orders in a busy time of year for the warehouse and for the couriers. Rest assured delivering your Battery Replacement Kit will be our priority.
Can I continue to use my Yoto Mini while I wait for my Battery Replacement Kit to arrive?
No. Please stop using your Yoto Mini manufactured between 2021 and 2023 until you have replaced the battery.
How do I register my replacement Battery?
IMPORTANT: you need to keep the box your Battery Replacement Kit came in to register the new battery.
Registration is needed for verification and tracking purposes. Once registered and verified, you will receive a $20 Yoto voucher, for each installed Battery Replacement Kit. This can be redeemed against any product on the Yoto website. A voucher code will be sent in a separate email within 45 days.
Once you have completed the installation of your new Yoto Mini battery, scan the QR code found on the outside of the packaging to complete a form and register your new battery. Scanning the code on the box will auto collect the battery serial number for ease.

How do I use the Battery Replacement Kit?
Detailed written instructions and a step by step video are available here. There is also a QR code on the underside of the replacement kit lid which when scanned will take you to more instructions and the step-by-step video guide.
The kit will include all the tools that you need including the battery subassembly, spare screws, prising tool, screwdriver and replacement rubber feet for your Yoto Mini.
Once you have completed the installation of your new Yoto Mini battery, please scan the QR code on the outside of the packaging to complete a form and register your new battery. This step is very important, as it will allow us to verify the new battery in order to send your voucher.
I live outside of the US but own a Yoto Mini (2021 - 2023 edition). Can I order a Battery Replacement Kit?
We will shortly make Battery Replacement Kits available free of charge for all customers who own an affected Yoto Mini outside of the US and Canada. Due to stock limitations we have begun a phased roll out, starting with the US and Canada. Customers outside of the US and Canada who own an affected Mini can already order their Battery Replacement Kit now, but these will not be shipped until early 2025. Everyone affected will receive an email and App notification in early 2025 with instructions on how to order the Battery Replacement Kit.
